The six AI engines that ship at launch (FaceAI, VehicleAI, ParcelAI, OccupancyAI, LoiterAI, SoundAI) are included with your purchase. There is no monthly fee for the engines, no monthly fee for local storage on the Hub, no paywall on features. VoiceAI launches as a paid optional subscription. The hardware works completely without VoiceAI. It is the only paid layer on the system and it is genuinely optional.
For most households, yes. The Hub uses RTSP and ONVIF, the open standards behind the majority of IP security cameras. Over 5,000 models from more than 200 manufacturers are supported at launch, including cameras from Reolink, Hikvision, Swann, Dahua, Axis, and UniFi. Streaming is supported across all compatible cameras. Some advanced controls (firmware updates, device reboots, motion-sensitivity tuning) are supported only on verified models. Run your camera through the compatibility checker to see what is supported for your specific model.
All footage is processed and stored locally on the Hub, inside your home. jupyter never stores your footage on our servers. There is no cloud upload, no shared dataset, no remote backup, no third party with access. If you want an off-site backup of your footage, you can link your own Google Drive, iCloud, or NAS to the Hub for encrypted backup. Data stored on third-party cloud services is governed by that service's own terms. jupyter is not responsible for what happens to data once it is on a third-party service you have chosen to use.
Initial Hub setup takes longer than a single camera onboard because the Hub activates the six AI engines, learns your network, and configures the storage. After that, each camera or device onboards in roughly 3-5 minutes. The Outdoor Halo mounts in a few minutes. The Indoor Halo and Hub need no installation; they sit on a shelf or desk and plug in. No installer is required for any of the bundles. The full installation is designed to be completed by the household in an afternoon.
Footage stored locally on the Hub is encrypted. A stolen Hub cannot be plugged into another network to retrieve recordings without your account credentials. If you have linked your own Google Drive, iCloud, or NAS as a backup, your footage is also retained there. We recommend customers who care about disaster recovery enable the optional encrypted backup to a cloud destination of their choice.
Not at launch. The Indoor Halo at launch focuses on the voice assistant, occupancy audio, and the indoor alarm. Premium speaker functionality and music streaming partner integrations are on the post-launch roadmap. The hardware is engineered to support them in future firmware updates.
jupyter is designed to deter the opportunistic break-ins that make up the bulk of residential burglary. The combination of occupancy illusion, audio escalation, and visible perimeter response shifts the calculation for the offender choosing between your home and the next one. The criminology research is strong: occupancy signals deter opportunistic break-ins where alarms alone do not. No security system can prevent every break-in. Banks with armed guards are still robbed. We promise a deterrent that works against the overwhelming majority of opportunistic events. We do not promise immunity.
VehicleAI garage automation requires a supported Wi-Fi garage door opener. The current list of supported openers is maintained in the app. Customers who want this feature should check the supported list before reserving if their existing opener compatibility is critical to the purchase.
jupyter delivers over-the-air firmware updates to the Hub and Halos through the supported lifetime of the hardware. Updates are designed to improve the existing AI engines, add new capabilities where the hardware supports them, and extend compatibility with new camera models. There is no monthly fee for updates.
The jupyter Hub comes with an 18-month warranty. The Indoor Halo, Outdoor Halo, Keyfob, Entry Door Sensor, and Cameras each come with a 12-month warranty. See the full terms for specifics on what is covered and what is excluded.
Yes. The Hub supports adding cameras at any time. You can buy additional jupyter Cameras after launch, or add your own existing compatible cameras to the system. Each new camera onboards in a few minutes through the app.
jupyter is designed in Melbourne, Australia. Engineering is distributed across Australia, Spain, and Vietnam. Manufacturing is handled by partners in Shenzhen with quality assurance overseen from Melbourne.
